WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS OF MEMBERS OR GRANTEES?

Podcasters and content creators who join The Black & Brown Podcast Collective are expected to remain active podcasters, and actively creating content.

If a member becomes inactive for a period of time due to personal circumstances, but will continue after the hiatus, and wish to still remain a member, a podcaster/content creator must notify us for awareness. If we find that a podcaster/content creator has been extremely inactive (e.g. not podcasting/creating content) and haven't notified us, that member may lose access to the platform. Grantees are expected to support the mission and initiatives of The Black & Brown Podcast Collective.

I REQUESTED MEMBERSHIP, BUT I HAVEN'T RECEIVED A RESPONSE! WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?

Great question. Our intention is to be a responsible and safe platform, and we are trying our best to implement practices where we can maintain a safe and responsible platform. In January 2022, we implemented a new process which requires a deeper vetting and review of content of our current and potential members. Therefore, membership acceptance will take some time as we are reviewing content to ensure there aren't incidences of hate speech. If you have requested membership and have not received your login credentials, please note that we are working as hard and quickly as we can to get to all membership submissions.

I AM A PODCASTER AND/OR CONTENT CREATOR, HOW MAY I GO ABOUT APPLYING FOR GRANTS?

A: First, become a member of The Black & Brown Podcast Collective. Press HERE. To find out more information about our in-house grant opportunities for podcasters and content creators of color please visit HERE and press GRANTS on the resource page.

DO I HAVE TO PAY A GRANT APPLICATION FEE?

A: No. There will never be a fee to apply and/or to receive a grant.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAR BACK FROM THE COLLECTIVE AFTER I SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION?

A: Grant programs will be different. Therefore, there will be different time frames.  Applicants will be made aware of time frames after submission. However,

if the grant application is on a rolling basis (no deadline), applications will be reviewed in the order in which it was received.  Most grant opportunities are on a rolling basis. Applicants who will receive a grant will be notified.

I WAS PICKED TO RECEIVE A GRANT. DO I HAVE TO PAY THIS BACK?

A: No. Grants are not loans. Therefore, you will not pay this back.

CAN I USE THE GRANT THE WAY I WANT TO?

A: During the height of COVID-19 (2020 - 2021) we were very flexible in the way that we awarded grants. Meaning, all of our grants were unrestricted which gave the grant recipient the liberty to utilize the grant as they needed for their podcast/content. Therefore, we did not require grantees to produce reports

or receipts to prove how they utilized the funds. In 2022 - 2023, there will be new requirements. For example, podcasters/content creators will be required to fill out a very short general report detailing how they utilized the funds (and we mean very short). Additionally, there will be opportunities for the listening public to also assist in choosing podcast grantees.

I WASN'T PICKED TO RECEIVE THE GRANT I APPLIED FOR. WILL I BE NOTIFIED AND CAN I APPLY AGAIN?

A: Yes, you can apply again. There will be different cycles for many of our grants. When a new cycle is available, apply again. However, applicants will not be able to apply more than once in a cycle for a specific grant. Due to large volume of grant applications received, you will only be notified if you receive a grant.

WHAT IS THE REPORT CARD?

A: Yes. Find out more HERE
