About THE REPORT CARD

The Report Card™ is a recommendation resource that will offer culturally competent reviews for fans of podcasts and content created and led by creators of color. If you’re a fan of podcasts created or led by creators of color and you're looking for a podcast recommendation, or you may want to share an opinion, welcome to The Report Card!

HOW DOES THIS WORK FOR PODCASTS OF COLOR?

A verified podcast critic will provide a thorough review of a podcast (Podview) and provide a number grade (Podmerit rating) for each category that is included in the rubric.

What is the Rubric?

Put simply, a structured criterion and scoring guide for evaluating a podcast. Podcasts are evaluated in five categories, originality, production, consistency, creativity, and overall content. Each of the five grades will be averaged to come up with the overall Podmerit rating. When a podcast receives three (3) reviews, the Podmerit rating will be displayed on the podcaster's profile. When there is no rating available, there are not enough reviews to generate a score OR the podcast is very new. An average score of 70 and over is a passing grade.

Our team collects podviews from our verified podcast critics and publications and thoroughly and methodically reads podviews, to see if the  podviews have a failing or passing grade.

The Importance of Podviews/Podmerits. It's two-fold...or maybe three

1-Fold - Culturally competent reviews from people who understand the nuances, P.O.V. and the experiences that show up in the content that podcasters of color create is of the utmost importance. While Sara, a wonderful writer from Oregon who never interacted with people outside of her town, doesn't have a love of media, never experienced or know what urban life is like reviews podcasts about Black women struggles in Urban neighborhoods, we often wonder would she or does she get it?

2-Fold - So often you read reviews that lack clarity, consistency, valid arguments, and proper grammar. Writing "I hate this pod, it's stupid and it sucks" while leaving a 1 star, OR "I love this podcast, it's the best ever!" while leaving a 5 star is not very informative for a potential podcast fan. Why? We don't understand the full reasoning behind the review. Moreover, we don't understand the true motivation behind the individual who is reviewing and leaving a star rating for the podcast. Could it be a bot? A competitive podcaster, or even the podcaster themselves? We don't know because the majority of the time, we see a username like appleseed807? Who's that?

3-Fold - Podviews will also help us make grant decisions for podcasters who are impactful. So, essentially, we want the valid opinions from others!

The Black & Brown Podcast Collective has opened applications for those who wish to become a verified podcast critic. Podcast critics are those who demonstrated or demonstrate a great level of cultural intelligence through their writing. They can engage or assess content from people of different cultural/ethnic backgrounds. Once a podcaster receives five (5) Listener Choice podviews you will see the total mics they received on their profile. If you're a podcast listener and would like to submit a podview visit HERE.
